Project Experience
Andy has worked on many innovative Adventure projects. Here are just a few examples of his experience.
Adventure Mussandam, Oman
Mussandam, known as 'the Norway of Arabia' is a mountainous peninsula which is part of Oman and surrounded by the UAE. Andy led on developing an Adventure Strategy for the region with the work program ranging from mapping activity opportunities to innovative concepts including a mountain top hotel to house a mountain bike centre and the launch point for the world's longest zip line.
Adventure Hatta, UAE
Andy led on the development of a vision and adventure tourism strategy for Hatta, Dubai. The variety of terrain in Hatta offered opportunities for innovation and Andy's approach included a proposal for the worlds longest Zip Coaster and the worlds longest Alpine Coaster. These would be serviced by a cable car which in turn opened up the prospect of international class downhill mountain bike facilities. Other elements of our approach included a family watersports centre, an outdoor wadi attraction and an indoor climbing and adventure play facility offering an all year round experience.
Adrenaline Gateway, UK
Using adventure sport to transform perceptions of Pennine Lancashire and drive regeneration. This project aimed to bring innovative adventure sports to an area that had been blighted by post-industrial decline and a very poor image. The project also aimed to maximize local benefit by developing a supply chain through skills development, networks and micro business support. Andy developed the initial concept proposal and feasibility study and then a full development strategy.
Venture Muscat, Oman
Andy drafted the business case and design brief for this hugely innovative project which sought to position Oman as the GCC’s leading adventure travel destination. The project was centred around a large extreme sports facility, housing over 20 activities within an iconic building design.
West Lakes Extreme, UK
This concept was developed to change perceptions of the Western Lake District and to shift visitor flows away from the East and Central Lakes. In doing so the facility would support both local regeneration and the overall Cumbria Adventure Activity strategy. Andy carried out the initial feasibility study and supporting market research that moved the project onto a design stage for which he led on the business and investment case.
Oman by UTMB, Oman
Andy project managed the inaugural Oman by UTMB ultra trail race and the development of supporting infrastructure. This included building or improving over 100km of trekking trails in the Hajar Mountains of Oman as well as overseeing all aspects of the race, which is now firmly established in the international calendar as 'the world's toughest ultra'.
